I was very happy with the Shaw mortar and brickwork at St Benet Biscop School Bedlington. As an ex-bricklayer of 29 years on the trowel I have always had reservations regarding retarded mortars when used in poor weather and/or with bricks that are not very absorbent. However, these fresh mixed gauged mortars start an initial set within 45 minutes and set after 7 hours, making the work resistant to wind and colour changes.
